How does the countdown work?
Each booking has its own release rule, set by the operator. The tool applies it to every day of your trip, in Japan time, then converts the moment to your time zone. Some rules are monthly (Ghibli, Pokémon Café), some run one day at a time (JR seats, Sagano, Shibuya Sky), so a trip across two months can have two opening dates.
Opens vs Book by: what is the difference?
"Opens" is a hard release rule, published by the operator and linked to its source. "Book by" is our recommendation where no fixed release rule exists: teamLab loads a month at a time about two months out but publishes no set date, and restaurants and hotels sell on a rolling basis, so the deadline is our read of when the good slots go, not an official date.
What are the key dates for a cherry blossom trip?
For 25 Mar–5 Apr 2027, the window around Tokyo's and Kyoto's average full bloom: a refundable hotel now (our six-month line passed on 26 September 2026). The trip spans two months, so the monthly releases come twice: Ghibli Park on 10 January and 10 February at 14:00 JST, the Pokémon Café on 1 February and 1 March at 18:00 JST, the Ghibli Museum on 10 February and 10 March at 10:00 JST. JR seats and the Sagano trolley open one day at a time from 25 February. Sakura changes the hotel math and the teamLab date, not the release rules: our cherry blossom booking timeline works the hotel side week by week.
Why is 10:00 JST the evening before in the US?
Japan is UTC+9 all year, with no daylight saving. So 10:00 JST is 20:00 the previous day in New York in winter and 21:00 in summer, 01:00 or 02:00 in London, and 11:00 or 12:00 in Sydney. The clocks in the US, UK and Australia change on different dates, which is why the tool converts each opening separately.
What if my date does not exist in the sales month?
Sales open on the 1st. JR, the Sagano Romantic Train and Tokyo Disney Resort all publish this rule: a ride on 29, 30 or 31 March 2027 goes on sale on 1 March, because 29–31 February do not exist. Universal Studios Japan does not publish a rule for this case; the tool flags it when it applies.
Which bookings actually sell out?
Four, reliably: the Ghibli Museum (weekends go the same day), the Pokémon Café (minutes), the Sagano trolley in November and at sakura, and sumo (September 2026 in Tokyo sold out within a week). Everything else is easier than the internet claims. The full picture, month by month, is in our Japan booking timeline.
