Privacy policy

Japan Prep is a static website: we don't run accounts, comments or logins, and we collect as little data as possible.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand which guides are useful (pages visited, approximate region, device type). This data is aggregated; we don't use it to identify you. GA4 sets cookies in the _ga family. It runs under Google Consent Mode, and you can turn it off at any time via Cookie settings in the footer.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our emails, we store the address you give us with our newsletter provider and use it only to send you the newsletter. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, which deletes you from the list.

Affiliate links

When you click an affiliate link (always inside a clearly marked card — see our affiliate disclosure), the destination site may set its own cookies to attribute the booking. We also load a script from our affiliate network (Travelpayouts) that helps attribute those clicks. We pass along a non-personal identifier of the article the click came from; we never pass personal data, because we don't have any. You can turn this off via Cookie settings in the footer.

Cookies & your choices

We use a few cookies: one strictly necessary cookie to remember your consent choice (jp_consent), plus the analytics and marketing cookies described above when you allow them. Visitors in the EU, EEA and UK see a consent banner on their first visit, and no analytics or marketing script loads until you accept — declining simply keeps them off. Outside those regions the scripts run by default. Everyone can review or change their choices at any time through Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you turn a category off after allowing it, a script already loaded in the current page view can't be fully unloaded until you reload — the change always applies from the next page view.
