Hotel rooms for sakura week 2027 are already bookable: the booking windows at every chain we checked reach that far. This page answers the question the booking calendar can't: how much more the same room costs inside the bloom window, 25 March to 5 April 2027, than in mid-February or mid-April. For what to book when, week by week, read our cherry blossom 2027 booking timeline first. This page is about prices.

Same hotels, four nights: how big is the sakura jump?

In Kyoto the sakura jump shows up as no vacancy, not as a price. On 16 October 2026 all five Kyoto hotels in our sample were sold out in the room we priced for Wednesday 31 March 2027. On 1 April the one room left, a Dormy Inn twin, cost 48% more than in mid-February. Osaka still had rooms: 0% to 14% more on 31 March, 26% more at Dormy Inn Namba on 1 April.

The only official series points the same way. The Kyoto City Tourism Association's monthly survey put the citywide average room rate at ¥17,678 in February 2026, ¥26,017 in March and ¥31,296 in April, the highest since the survey began in 2014. That is 1.47x February in March and 1.77x in April, averaged over every room type and every night of the month, before tax.

The sample: eight hotels on the chains' own booking sites, one room type per hotel for two adults, one night on each date, standard plan, all collected on 16 October 2026. Prices are per room with consumption tax, local accommodation tax extra. "Sold out" means that room type had nothing left that night.

Mid-April is February again. On 14 April every hotel with a room left was no more than 21% above its 17 February price, and Dormy Inn Namba was 6% cheaper. The window that hurts is the bloom itself, and in Kyoto the cheap rooms go first.

Refundable or non-refundable for sakura week?

Refundable. Japanese chains booked direct are generous: Toyoko Inn charges nothing if you cancel before noon on the day of check-in, then 100%. Dormy Inn charges 50% of the room rate from the day before and 100% on the day or for a no-show. Route Inn starts at 20% two to three days out.

On the official sites we priced there was no cheaper non-refundable rate to weigh. Toyoko Inn's cheaper option is its Early Bird package at participating hotels, three of them in our sample: 5% to 15% off when booked 7 to 30 days ahead and paid online by card, and still free to cancel until midnight before arrival. Club Card members get 5% off the standard rate.

Route InnTo the end of the 11th month, current month included20% 2–3 days before; 50% day before; 80% same day
Direct-booking rules at three Japanese chains, checked 16 October 2026

Two caveats from the chains' own pages. Toyoko Inn says package bookings can carry different cancellation rules, and that bookings made through third-party sites follow that platform's terms. Read the plan conditions before you pay, not after.

Does 1 April, the new fiscal year, move prices?

Not in any way the bloom doesn't already explain. Dormy Inn Premium Namba went from ¥25,650 on Wednesday 31 March to ¥28,350 on Thursday 1 April, about 10% more. Toyoko Inn Osaka Umeda Higashi held its February rate of ¥10,600 on 31 March and was sold out on 1 April. In Kyoto our sample had a single room left across the two nights, so there is nothing to compare.

The official monthly figures can't settle it either: March 2026 averaged ¥26,017 in Kyoto and April ¥31,296, but April also holds Kyoto's peak bloom days, so the jump can't be pinned on the calendar change.

Kyoto or Osaka as your sakura base?

Osaka, on this evidence. For 31 March 2027 Osaka still had rooms at 0% to 14% over February, while every Kyoto hotel in our sample was full. On 1 April a twin at Dormy Inn Premium Namba cost ¥28,350 against ¥41,400 at its sister by Kyoto Station.

The general trade-off is in our Kyoto or Osaka base guide: Osaka has more rooms and lower prices, Kyoto puts you at the temples before the crowds. If you settle on Kyoto, our Kyoto area guide compares Downtown, the station and Gion.

When do 2027 sakura rooms go on sale?

They already are. Toyoko Inn sells nine months ahead to everyone and twelve to Club Card members, Dormy Inn up to a year ahead, and Route Inn to the end of the eleventh month counting the current one. On 16 October 2026 that put the whole 25 March–5 April 2027 window on sale at all three.

The forecasts come much later: the Japan Meteorological Corporation's first 2026 call came out on 18 December 2025, and the Japan Weather Association's (tenki.jp) on 29 January 2026. Neither has dated its first 2027 forecast yet; expect them around the turn of the year, long after the rooms went on sale. Everything else with a fixed window is in our Japan booking timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book hotels for late March 2027 already?

Yes. On 16 October 2026 Toyoko Inn (9 months ahead, 12 for members), Dormy Inn (up to a year) and Route Inn (to the end of the 11th month) were all selling the 25 March–5 April 2027 nights, though the cheaper Kyoto rooms for 31 March and 1 April were already gone.

Should I wait for the cherry blossom forecast before booking?

No. The first 2026 forecasts came out on 18 December 2025 (Japan Meteorological Corporation) and 29 January 2026 (tenki.jp), months after spring rooms went on sale. Book refundable now and adjust later.

How much more expensive are Kyoto hotels in cherry blossom season?

Citywide, Kyoto's average room rate was ¥31,296 in April 2026 against ¥17,678 in February, 1.77x, tax excluded. Same hotel, same room: a twin at Dormy Inn Premium Kyoto Ekimae cost ¥27,900 for 17 February 2027 and ¥41,400 for 1 April, 48% more. The cheaper chain rooms in Kyoto were already sold out for 31 March and 1 April when we checked on 16 October 2026.

Is a non-refundable rate worth it for sakura week?

Rarely. Booked direct, Toyoko Inn lets you cancel free until noon on the day of arrival and Dormy Inn until two days before, so a refundable room costs you little flexibility. On the chain sites we checked there was no cheaper non-refundable rate on offer anyway.

Is Osaka a good base for Kyoto cherry blossoms?

For value, yes: Osaka has far more hotel rooms and lower prices, and Kyoto is a short train ride away. Stay in Kyoto if you want the temples at dawn before the crowds.
